This solid early/mid- 19th-C. walnut worktable features finely turned bobbin legs, two small drawers and hinged drop leaves. The vernacular form is simple yet is elevated by the quality of the turning and the warmth of the walnut. It is ideal as a side table, writing stand or accent piece. Dated and signed “JW Roberts, 1841” in pencil on the drawer, possibly an early owner’s mark.

I carefully restored this table using traditional methods: It was refinished with an all-natural hand-applied oil varnish that brings out the walnut natural figure of the wood, while retaining its age and character. The two drawers are fitted with high-quality aged brass pulls as the previous knobs were damaged.
