French Provincial Petite Display Cabinet on Chest
$2,395
This small-scale display cabinet exhibits the rustic elegance of French provincial furniture, blending Rococo and Neoclassical design elements associated with the transition from the Louis XV to Louis XVI styles.
The cabinet is raised on slender cabriole legs above a three-drawer base and retains its original brass mythical dolphin-form ring pulls and backplates. One ring pull is a later replacement. Geometric herringbone stringing provides restrained decoration throughout, while the glazed upper case creates an ideal setting for the display of porcelain, small objects, or collectibles.
Recently stabilized and restored, the cabinet has been fitted with Bendheim restoration glass, custom glass shelves, a linen-lined interior, and carefully serviced hardware while preserving its age, character, and evidence of hand craftsmanship accumulated over generations of use. The glazed door is a hand-made replacement constructed to complement the cabinet's original design and proportions.
A distinctive and highly decorative piece that functions equally well as a display vitrine, collector's cabinet, or accent cabinet in both traditional and eclectic interiors, well suited for smaller rooms, apartments, and narrow wall spaces.
